The Young Turks: August 19, 2014

Ana joins Cenk for SCS.  3 Georgia teenagers are responding to a smart solution to the Ferguson police violence.  They created an app called 5.0 that rates the professionalism of particular police departments.  Update on a police raid on a home back in May that resulted in severe burns to a 19 month old baby that was greeted with the cops’ flashbang grenade.  The baby had a hole in his chest and had to be put in a medically induced coma.  Now that the family has sued for his medical bills, the state ruled that it is against the law for them to pay for his injuries that they inflicted. P.E. teachers are now putting heart monitors on their chests to make sure that they are being active.  Ana likes this idea, but Cenk is completely against it.  TYT Supreme Court is split, so a poll will be posted for the TYT Army to decide.  A tribe of outlaw Instagramers post pictures of their daredevil escapades on top of NYC buildings at night.  The shots they get are amazing. Companies in China have unveiled robots to take the jobs of waiters and hostesses.  They use them because they are cheaper, never get sick, or tired.  California officials have voted to incentivize citizens to come out to vote by entering them into a lottery that could be worth up to $50,000.  Cenk likes the idea while Ana hates it because it invites uninformed people to come out and destroy elections. Cenk hosting today.  An American journalist that was captured in the Middle East by the Islamic State has been executed and the video was posted to the internet.  3 miles from Ferguson, MO another police shooting & killing has been reported.  The man was a 23 years old and was wielding a knife, calling for the cops to shoot and kill him.  Upon first hearing about this, Cenk could see a reason for the cops to respond until he realized that they didn’t have to kill him simply because of his knife.  Updates from Ferguson after last night’s clashes.  Video of Jake Tapper showing the ridiculous response of the police in army gear to the protesters that were not looting.  Molotov cocktails and a couple of handguns were confiscated from some citizens.  A leader of a faction of the KKK is planning a fundraiser for the cop that murdered Michael Brown, as well as planning protection for White businesses from looters.  Latest on the Ferguson citizen that was beaten in jail by a group of cops in 2009 and charged with bleeding on them.  One of the cops that brutally beat the man is now on the Ferguson city council.  Some civil rights groups are getting the citizens of Ferguson to register to vote so that they can make change in their community and some Republican leaders of the state are irate over this, calling it disgusting. The program that gives military equipment to local police departments was ratcheted down after Alan Grayson tried to pass legislation to ban the handing down of huge war machines like aircraft and nuclear weapons.  The bill was overwhelmingly voted down.  One caucus member said that its too hard to vote on a bill without lobbyist recommendations, meaning he’d have to decide for himself without knowing if he’s stepping on the toes of his masters with the money.  President Obama’s responses to the situation in Ferguson have been highly criticized by Conservatives.  Video of Paul Ryan talking about how we need to take a deep breath and not try to take advantage of the situation in Missouri.  This is part of the setup to force Obama to do nothing to change.  Mashup of multiple talking heads claiming that Obama has jumped into the situation before he knows all of the facts and that he’s inserting racism and pushing for more violence.  After all of these warnings, Obama spoke last night and said he has to be very careful not to jump in too soon or prejudge the situation before all of the facts are revealed.  Cenko Unchained.  Cenk talks about how Obama has shown he can take on the issue of discrimination and race with eloquence, but refuses to do so when it doesn’t directly affect him.  Cenk dives into ways Obama could bring to light the things that affect all of us regarding race.  Democratic Senators that are fighting to get Obama’s judges and issues passed are growing weary of Obama’s disengaged energy and lack of fight.  His only objective is to be seen as above the fray, not a Democratic president that works with fellow Dems.  With this huge loss of allies, Cenk warns that when his enemies attack in the form of impeachment, he won’t have fellow Dems to back him up.  This same scenario is what helped end Nixon’s presidency.
