Syrian documentary filmmaker and journalist Naji Jerf was killed in Turkey on Sunday, according to local media and a statement from the Committee to Protect Journalists, a nonprofit group. Turkish media reported that an assailant shot Jerf to death on the street during the day in the border city of Gaziantep. A new report by the Pulitzer-winning veteran journalist Seymour Hersh says the Joint Chiefs of Staff has indirectly supported Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in an effort to help him defeat jihadist groups.
