The Young Turks: November 13, 2014

Ana joins Cenk for SCS.  Cenk and Ana begin discussing a documentary by Brave New Films regarding overcriminalization of certain types of people.  They then bring up talk about how informative documentaries can be, and how discreditable news is nowadays.  They then discusses VICE’s new article.  They then begin to talk about the justice system and how they sometimes bend the law to get innocent people convicted.  They bring up many examples and statistics to support the argument that the system is unjust.  Now, let’s talk about space. The European Space Agency successfully landed the Rosetta onto a comet 300,000,000 miles away.  We then move onto how amazing it is that human beings can accomplish something like this.  After that, we discuss a local government who pardoned his own son for minor possession of drug offenses.  Cenk discusses his belief that the governor did a good thing. A video of a drunk girl on hollywood Blvd has gone viral.  Cenk counters pointing out that the video is fake.  They then discuss how sick it is that the video was made in the first place.  They reiterate by pointing out all the ways a video like this hurts the public.  They move on to a story about  a Lebanon hipster bartender and his stories of all the threats he received from others because of his beard.  Cenk accidentally reveals how much he actually thinks hipsters are cool, and mustaches are not.  They then discuss the crazy people that are already waiting in front of Best Buy for a discount on a T.V.  Talk about their equal hatred of Black Friday follows.  After that Ana shares a story about a woman who faked burns to extract $10,000 from McDonalds. Cenk hosts TYT. Democrat Mark Begich loses his senate seat to Republican Dan Sullivan. Cenk breaks down the race and how Begich ran a republican lite campaign which resulted him in losing his seat. Begich also ran ads featuring himself along with Lisa Murkowski who later had to tell him to stop because he was “embarrassing himself”. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote an op-ed on how Democrats could have won their races by running on progressive positions citing cases like Senator Al Franken in Minnesota and Jerry Brown in California, both politicians who won their elections overwhelmingly. De Blasio continues to cite progressive ballot measures that passed in very conservative states. A recent Gallup poll shows that Republicans have a higher favorability rating than Democrats. This is the Democrats lowest favorability rating since Gallup began tracking favorability ratings since 1992. Elizabeth Warren was given a Senate liaison position. Cenk believes that this position was given to her as a ‘pat on the head’ but will use this position to further her career. ISIS releases recordings featuring Al-Bahgdadi after numerous reports claimed he was killed. In the tapes Bahgdadi says that the Islamic Calaphate is growing. Cenk predicts that the US will ramp up the war against ISIS in order to prevent them from moving into Saudi Arabia, where we have the most vested interest. Also, the current war against ISIS is costing US tax payers 8 million dollars a day and the cost will go up in the years to come. Glenn Beck admits that he has had mental issues for a while and has undergone treatment and now has a ‘clean bill of health’. Cenk explains how dangerous he was because he had an influence on the country while he was on Fox news. Cenk discusses the positive actions of Obama, such as lowering gas prices and lowering the massive deficit left by George W Bush.  He explains criticism is good, but credit should be given where credit is due, like healthcare prices decreasing under Obamacare.   Twitter Storm with Hannah Cranston.
