The Young Turks: May 14, 2014

Ana and John hosting 2nd hour.  May is masturbation month.  Florida police officers assaulted a 13 year old kid after he was kicked off of his school bus for defying the driver and putting his window down.  Child labor still happens in America and it occurs mostly on tobacco farms.  Our child labor laws allow much younger kids, as young as 7, to work in the farming industry.  Human Rights Watch wants to change this law. Europe’s highest court ruled that Google has to respect people’s request to have some things eliminated from the search engine that contain objectionable information about the person.  A California Assemblyman is pushing for condoms to be handed out to prison inmates.  The opposition is worried this will encourage them to have sex when they’re not allowed to already.  An Ohio inmate noticed that his prison shows pirated movies, when he was imprisoned for running movie pirating websites. A superintendent is apologizing after a teacher showed a video of a gay couple getting married to his elementary class in order to force a natural conversation about bullying and harassment.  Some parents felt the trigger of the conversation was one sided in favor of gay rights.  An Indian mattress company has been using images of Malala, the girl that was shot for standing up for her rights, to sell their products.  It depicts her being shot, landing on their mattress, and bouncing back up to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Cenk hosting today.  After Conservative CNBC anchor went off on how he can’t recognize the Republican Party anymore, he went on his own show later in the day to make sure everyone understands that he wasn’t praising Democrats.  John McCain spoke out about the Boko Haram kidnappings in Nigeria and came to the conclusion that we need to send some troops to rescue the girls without permission from the country; from “some guy named Goodluck Jonathan.”  Obama’s top economic advisor is bashing another economist’s book that details how rabid capitalism drives our problems with inequality.  Dumbest Controversy of the Week being built up by Conservatives.  Outrage over Ed Schultz’ tweet that said, in reality, gays were the ones persecuted and murdered by Nazi Germany.  There is also outrage over Democratic Congressman Rob Garcia supposedly picking his ear and eating the earwax while at a hearing. The Anti Defamation League conducted a study worldwide to see how much anti-Semitism still exists.  26% of people held anti-Semitic views and 46% are unaware of the Holocaust.  The most anti-Semitic country was Greece.  The least anti-Semitic country is Laos.  The New York Times looked into which companies are the most Republican.  The company that owns Wonder Bread takes the prize.  #2 was Cracker Barrel.  Chelsea Manning update.  The government is going to allow her to transfer to a federal prison to allow her to complete the transition to female.  Cenk thinks that this is why Hagel spoke well about the possibility of allowing transgender soldiers. A poll about which term, “Climate Change” or “Global Warming” is more palatable to people.  The Saudi ban on women drivers has led to many defying the law and some getting into fatal car accidents.  Whenever this happens, the powers that be point out that this is one reason women shouldn’t drive.  In reality, many Saudi men get into fatal car accidents too, but those aren’t highlighted.
