The Young Turks: March 10, 2014

Ana joins Cenk for SCS.  Adam Lanza’s father gave an interview to the New Yorker about his son and his life leading up to shooting the Newtown school shooting.  He called his son evil and regretted his life.  Cenk doesn't think he did himself any favors with this interview.  The missing Malaysian Airlines flight has sparked some crazy conspiracy theories.  Update on the open letter written by a convicted murderer on death row that spoke openly about the evils of our justice system and prison system.  The brother of the man that he helped kill wrote a response letter.  A private prison in Idaho has been busted for putting drug leaders in place of correctional officers, causing pure chaos in the facility, simply to save some money when they get tens of millions of dollars to house criminals.  Dutch politicians are using the social media app Grinder to reach out to more constituents.  The app is usually used by gay men to find partners to hook up with. Cenk remembers the conversation on Friday’s show about why the oldest woman in the world has lived this long.  After Cenk claimed over and over again that it was the fish, and he was batted down by Ana, he cites a study that backs him up...and gloats.  Sigma Alpha Epsilon has decided to stop their hazing practices after 10 pledges have died in the past several years due to the hazing, which has led to bad PR and lawsuits.  Technology has exposed the morbid practices more and more, causing the frat to lie in the face of the truth when they could get away with it in the past.   Hour 2 source articles The facts and the theories in the case of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2014/03/10/the-facts-and-the-theories-in-the-case-of-the-missing-malaysia-airlines-jet/ ‘New Yorker’ Interview With Adam Lanza’s Father Neglects Guns-in-the-House Issue http://www.thenation.com/blog/178766/new-yorker-interview-adam-lanzas-father-neglects-guns-house-issue# A discussion of the Ray Jasper Death Row issue from a family member of the victim http://steven-alejandro.kinja.com/a-discussion-of-the-ray-jasper-death-row-issue-from-a-f-1536676452 Sigma Alpha Epsilon: We're Banning Pledging http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/sigma-alpha-epsilon-were-banning-pledging-n48406

Cenk hosting today.  The wrap up from CPAC.  The conference ended with the Straw poll that had Rand Paul winning overwhelmingly with 31% of the votes.  He was followed by Ted Cruz, Dr. Ben Carson, and then Chris Christie.  Cenk points out how Ron Paul, Rand Paul, and Mitt Romney have been the winners for the past several years, which shows that young Republicans identify as Libertarians rather than traditional Repubs.  Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are taking shots at each other since they know they will face each other in the GOP primary for president in 2016.  Videos of them both quoting Reagan in battling over their foreign policy strategies that opposes the other.  Cenk calls out the weakness of Pres Reagan on foreign policy and how Republicans would hate him today.  Video of Ted Cruz ruffling Republican feathers at CPAC when he called out the “Pres Doles, McCains, and Romneys” of the world that don’t exist because they didn't stand for principles.  McCain responded by saying Cruz should apologize to Bob Dole.  Rand Paul responded by claiming he doesn’t like to drag people down the way Cruz does.  Dick Cheney lamented the decision to take military action off of the table when dealing with Russia in Ukraine, calling it weakness and indecisiveness. On Fox & Friends First, they were talking about the National Spelling Bee and misspelled “Spelling Be” on the graphic.  New segment on TYT: “Is It Racist?”  A MN State Rep tweeted that if the NBA folded tomorrow, no one would notice except for the rise in street crime.  When called out for his veiled racist tweet, he denied it.  David Sirota has written another devastating piece on PBS and how they are actually privately funded and controlled by Liberty Media.  Liberal think tank Think Progress, which is run by Center for American Progress, has been outed by a former writer for the site after he was warned by the Democrats in DC to not oppose the Obama Admin plan to surge in Afghanistan.  After phone calls from the WH poured in over his writing, the powers that be berated him for criticizing the Admin’s policies and causing daylight between them and the WH. Lightning Round.  Gov Rick Scott of Florida is getting his ass kicked by Democratic challenger, Charlie Crist in preliminary polls, and Republicans are not happy about it.  Mark Begich added onto the battle against the Koch Brothers with Sen Reid.  Obama’s nominee for the Civil Rights arm of the Justice Dept has been voted down by the Senate because while he worked for the NAACP, they once represented Mumia, the accused cop killer.  Hour 1 source articles After pledging transparency, PBS hides details of new deal with billionaire owner of NewsHour http://pando.com/2014/03/07/after-pledging-transparency-pbs-hides-details-of-new-deal-with-billionaire-owner-of-newshour/ How Working In Washington Taught Me We’re All A Little Like RT America http://zaidjilani.tumblr.com/post/78770477756/how-working-in-washington-taught-me-were-all-a-little Dick Cheney on Ukraine: Mistake to Take Military Options Off the Table http://www.mediaite.com/tv/dick-cheney-on-ukraine-mistake-to-take-military-options-off-the-table/ State Rep Pat Garofalo Says NBA Players Are Criminals http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/03/10/state-rep-pat-garofalo-says-nba-players-are-criminals.html A Rand Paul rout in CPAC straw poll http://www.politico.com/story/2014/03/rand-paul-cpac-straw-poll-104450.html#ixzz2vbh0OcM1
