Syria.  Problems with acting now. Opinions are against US action. Reports say that the NYPD has determined all mosques as terrorist organizations so that they can monitor and conduct surveillance on the mosque and anyone that attends.  Video of NYPD chief Ray Kelly denying that they watch mosques right before he admitted that they do.  Conservatives’ campaign to deem MLK as a like-minded man is on full throttle. Multiple quotes dispute this propaganda. Corey Booker has talked about how he responds to rumors that he is gay, by saying “so what if I am” in order to challenge people’s homophobia.  His Senatorial opponent, Steve Lonegan said that he likes being a guy that smokes cigars and drinks a good scotch.

A male teacher raped a 14 year old student, leading her to killing herself at age 17.  The rapist was sentenced to 30 days and a treatment program since the girl had killed herself and couldn’t help bury him.  Judge that sentenced him claimed that the girl was just as responsible in the relationship as the teacher was.  Residents in a small town in Arkansas and Ohio are suing fracking companies whose activities have caused many earthquakes when it never happened before. Researchers have found that there is a link between science and morality.  A painting depicting Putin and Medvedev taken down from its exhibit in Russia and the artist has fled the country, seeking asylum in France. New proposed law in California would make revenge porn punishable by jail time.  Pakistan aired its first condom commercial, causing a bit of an uproar since it depicts sex without the intent of having children.

Bonus Episode, August 28, 2013

Nissan said that by 2020 they are going to have autonomous cars. Unsurprisingly, John thinks it’s exciting. John has multiple nerdgasms as he explains the different possibilities and features of future cars, but Cenk is not so convinced initially. Rubin points out how the cars can just be another way for the government to control us. They do a TYTSC, and unanimously vote that autonomous cars are not guilty.
